Now a Proud Member of GAWDS!
Posted Friday, June 13th, 2008Well after a lot of time and effort, my application was a success and I have been invited to join the Guild of Accessible Website Designers!
Ever since it was first introduced to me by my course tutor Joel Mills, founder of Under 50k web design (also in the guild) I have been pushing my designs and coding to get to the level I need to be in order for me to be accepted.
It is really great to be part of such a prestigous community, especially working in such a small office with only a couple of designers to bounce ideas off, having now a bunch of people to talk to about coding issues, design ideas and so on is just brill!
I would like to thank my company Blackprint, and my boss for giving me the time and funding to get the membership, and I hope, being recognized as part of this group, and being capable of building sites to this standards will benefit his business for the future.
The guild, found at www.gawds.org is built upon good design practices and the acknowledgement of accessible website design. It also acts as a show case for all the members work if anyone ever wanted to go check out what an accessible website looked like! And a knowledge base for new designers wanting to join the push for accessibility.
Membership isn’t expensive for individuals and its a one off life time joining fee so I would seriously recommend if you are wanting to advertise your business as being ‘up to standards’ that you brush up on a couple of designs and grab your membership! Help build the community of accessible web designers!
